The Philippine Movement for Climate Justice (PMCJ) Mindanao and local church organizations called on the national government to directly fund the rehabilitation of the Agus-Pulangi Hydroelectric Power Complex rather than transferring operational concessions to San Miguel Corporation.
PMCJ Mindanao representative Pat Jared Pangantihon warned that privatizing energy assets predictably drives up electricity tariffs, placing an added burden on Mindanao consumers.
The coalition insisted that access to affordable power is a state responsibility that should not be compromised for corporate profit.
