Dr. Gerry J. Caño, member of the Board of Directors of the Cagayan de Oro Water District (COWD), clarified that the Commission on Audit (COA) has released its findings regarding the planned 40% increase in water rates in the city.

According to him, the current contract is deemed unjustifiable, particularly because it includes an escalation clause every three years without the benefit of consultation.

In line with COA’s directive, COWD assured that it will comply by conducting the required public hearings.

During these hearings, consumer complaints and suggestions will be heard, and the agency will present its 10-year development plan for service improvement.

Dr. Caño emphasized that this process is a way to achieve quality water service, which is a basic necessity for the people.
