The impeachment trial against the Vice President cannot be halted even if her legal team files a petition for certiorari before the Supreme Court against the Senate.
Former Mayor and Law Professor Oscar Moreno clarified that the law does not mandate a static baseline of 16 votes, requiring instead a final two-thirds vote of all sitting members.
The attorney added that past misinterpretations regarding a strict 16-vote requirement created unnecessary public confusion surrounding the rule.
As such, the former official expressed confidence that the Supreme Court will refrain from issuing a temporary restraining order, respecting the constitutional independence of the impeachment court.
