A recent National Simultaneous School Safety Drill in Region 10 revealed operational gaps in campus security and emergency response readiness.
Department of Education (DepEd) Cagayan de Oro Program Head Romeo Aclo reported that the drill highlighted unbolted access gates, insufficient alert mechanisms, and a lack of formal emergency communication protocols.
Aclo emphasized the need for comprehensive teacher training and student psychological support during emergency scenarios.
He added that securing campuses remains challenging due to shortages in perimeter fencing and formal security personnel, calling for inter-agency and community support.
