Mindanao Pride founder Hamilcar Chanjueco Jr. highlighted the challenge of understanding the concept of gender in local communities.

In his interview with Bombo Radyo, he pointed out that religious and traditional views on sexuality remain a major barrier in Mindanao. He clarified that many local communities find it difficult to grasp terminologies such as SOGIESC compared to Western concepts.

This has made it necessary to further explain gender identity and sexual orientation, especially in clarifying what being gay truly means.

In conclusion, Chanjueco emphasized the need to bridge modern perspectives with local cultures to fully achieve genuine advocacy.
