The Department of Energy (DOE) is preparing for extended instability in the Middle East, particularly the escalating conflict involving Iran.
Energy Secretary Sharon Garin confirmed that the agency has already conducted meetings with other government offices and oil companies to map out strategies for potential worst-case scenarios.
According to Garin, several contingency plans are being studied to ensure that the Philippines maintains a stable and affordable oil supply even if the crisis drags on.
She emphasized that the DOE’s top priority is protecting consumers from sharp price hikes while securing enough fuel reserves for the country’s needs.
This proactive stance highlights the government’s effort to shield the economy from external shocks, especially as global oil markets remain highly volatile due to geopolitical tensions.
