Economist and former Misamis Oriental Vice Governor Joey Pelaez characterized public statements regarding the total settlement of the national government’s ₱19 trillion debt stock as fiscally unfeasible.

Pelaez pointed out that structural economic pressures, including modest gross domestic product growth and debt service obligations, require continuous government borrowing to maintain basic public operations.

He expressed concern over fiscal projections that disconnect from realistic revenue capabilities.
