Despite the strong efforts of the LGBTQ community to have their rights recognized, Atty. Samantha Tan confirmed that acceptance of the group in society remains superficial.

In reality, discrimination continues in schools where transgender or homosexual students are expelled from classes simply because of their uniforms.

Tan emphasized that this is a violation of the fundamental right of children to education, which is one of the priorities under the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

She explained that preventing students from learning is among the reasons why the country struggles economically and fails to fully develop.

For this reason, the lawyer stressed that education is the only effective means to address these problems and resolve the crisis currently faced by the Philippines.
