Environmental advocate Derek Cabe warned against continued land degradation and environmental stress during El Ni o events.
Cabe highlighted that land expansion, deforestation, and uncontrolled burning increase ground temperatures and sub-surface fire risks that challenge firefighting capacity.
Consequently, the advocate urged an immediate suspension of open-pit mining and coal-fired power plant projects to mitigate further environmental degradation.
