Environmental advocate Derek Cabe called for heightened community disaster preparedness in response to intensifying weather patterns and regional climate risks.

Cabe noted that extreme weather events, including recurring local flooding and regional transboundary haze, demonstrate pressing environmental vulnerability.

She warned that impending El Nino conditions could exacerbate climate impacts across the country, emphasizing that disaster mitigation plans must account for the estimated 20 to 21 tropical cyclones and severe typhoons entering the Philippine Area of Responsibility annually.
