Retired Brig. Gen. Atty. Virgilio Garcia stated that the 18 ex-Marines and Atty. Levito Baligod are facing harassment through a series of lawsuits filed across the country by certain lawmakers seeking to pressure them into silence.
The former official observed that legal complaints against the whistleblowers were processed faster than investigations into the congressmen named by the soldiers.
Garcia alleged that around 80 to 90 percent of lawmakers are implicated in the scheme, which reportedly involved ₱1 trillion in funds and ₱58 million in suitcase bribes to force witness retractions.
He added that the former Marines remain ready to identify additional involved officials through photographic evidence.
