Atty. Joel B. Mahinay of the Union of Peoples’ Lawyers in Mindanao emphasized that authenticating any video used as evidence in quasi-judicial proceedings, such as an impeachment trial, is critical.
He explained that even though the video was streamed live on Facebook on November 24, 2024, it must still undergo proper verification to ensure it is original and admissible in court
. He added that simply having the video is not enough; it must be proven to be a true copy of the original to avoid being useless in legal proceedings.
Thus, authentication is necessary to guarantee the reliability of electronic evidence presented in hearings.
