The teachers’ group expressed deep sorrow over the shooting incident at a public school in Tacloban City, which claimed four lives and injured several students.

Roland S. Cruz, coordinator of the Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) Northern Mindanao, stated that for them, the incident reflects the ongoing education crisis in the country.

Cruz stressed that similar tragedies could be avoided if the education sector were given sufficient funding and if overcrowding in classrooms were properly addressed.

According to data from the Second Congressional Commission on Education, many students have already reported bullying, intimidation, and harassment due to disorderly classes.

Because of this, the group is calling for urgent action from the administration to ensure the safety of children in schools.
