“Misleading!” This was the comment of geopolitical analyst Prof. Anna Malindog-Uy on the World Bank’s classification of the Philippines as upper-middle income based on Gross National Income statistics.
She explained that it would be deceptive for the Marcos administration to claim this as an achievement, since the status is cumulative from past years.
Malindog-Uy emphasized that the classification has little connection to the daily realities of ordinary citizens.
She further pointed out that the country is currently facing serious economic challenges not reflected in such statistics.
