Prof. Christopher Ryan Maboloc of the Ateneo de Davao University expressed deep concern over the severe manpower shortage of security guards in public schools, noting that they are usually paid solely by the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA).
He explained that unlike private institutions, a large public school with over 10,000 students typically has only two to four guards on duty.
Consequently, Maboloc voiced his strong fear that these schools are easily breached and rendered vulnerable to dangerous items.
He appealed to local government units (LGUs) to allocate funds and coordinate with the Department of Education so they can directly fund guards for children’s protection.
