Legal expert Atty. Samson So Tan expressed skepticism regarding the petition filed before the Supreme Court by Atty. Vic Rodriguez’s group challenging the Senate’s revised impeachment voting threshold, stating that the petition faces low odds of success.
Tan explained that the Supreme Court generally considers impeachment proceedings internal political questions under the Senate’s exclusive jurisdiction.
He noted that constitutional controversy persists over calculating two-thirds requirements—whether against all 24 members or attending senators—and added that medically incapacitated senators retain their voting rights, presenting significant hurdles for the petitioners.
