Atty. Samson So Tan of the Liceo de Cagayan University College of Law warned all gun owners to practice proper and responsible firearm storage following a series of school shootings committed by students using weapons owned by their parents.
In his interview with Bombo Radyo, he emphasized that a gun should be cared for like a spouse, but hidden away like a mistress so it never falls into the hands of children.
Tan added that parents must consider two fundamental reasons:
first, minors lack the sufficient maturity and cognitive capacity to comprehend whether using a firearm is right or unlawful;
second, adults of legal age bear a heavy obligation to ensure family safety by keeping weapons in places completely inaccessible to children.
