Atty. Ephraim Cortez of the National Union of Peoples’ Lawyers (NUPL) characterized petitions filed before the Supreme Court by supporters of the Vice President regarding impeachment proceedings as premature and legally unviable.
Cortez explained that no actual legal injury or justiciable controversy exists because the Senate Impeachment Court has not conducted a final vote.
He noted that Congress holds constitutional authority over impeachment trial management, adding that petitioners must demonstrate clear grave abuse of discretion before seeking high court intervention.
