Members of the LGBTQ community expressed that raising their voices against corruption in the country is more important than spending funds on Pride Month festivities this June.
According to Atty. Samantha Tan, Legal Counsel of LGBT Pilipinas, it is unjustifiable to allocate money for events at this time when greater focus should be placed on the economy and helping those suffering from hunger.
She further challenged LGBT leaders not to prioritize rights alone, but to concentrate on what is righteous and necessary today. For her, educating children through their parents is vital to securing the nation’s future and preventing continued hardship.
Tan also stressed that now is not the time for grand displays, but rather a time to extend help to people who need food on their tables.
