Mindanao Power Consumers Federation Chairperson Dr. Melchie Ambalong criticized Iligan’s surging power costs, which have reached ₱15 per kilowatt-hour compared to the regional average of ₱12–13 in Mindanao.
Protesters plan to gather at 3:00 PM near the post office for a rally before marching to the offices of Iligan Light and Power Incorporated (ILPI).
Dr. Ambalong reiterated eight core demands, urging the government to keep key energy assets state-owned rather than transferring them to private investors.
