Pat Jared Pangantihon of the Philippine Movement for Climate Justice (PMCJ Mindanao) said the Philippines lost a vital opportunity to address its energy problems after signing the Paris Agreement in 2017.

He explained that if the country had strengthened its capacity to actively implement the accord, it could have been better prepared for today’s oil crisis.

Pangantihon cited the promotion of electric vehicles as an example of a solution that reduces dependence on fuel and lowers carbon emissions.

Cause-oriented groups have long pushed for these eco‑friendly alternatives, which could have eased both environmental and economic pressures now confronting the nation.
