The National Union of Students of the Philippines (NUSP) announced plans to stage a protest during President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s upcoming State of the Nation Address.
Their slogans include “Gen Z Fight Back, Marcos-Duterte Must Be Held Accountable, Change the Rotten System!” NUSP Secretary General Ceejay Bebis emphasized that the country’s problems stem from government corruption.
While the administration boasts of the Philippines’ upper-middle income status according to the World Bank, Bebis argued that ordinary citizens do not feel this progress.
He said reliance on imports and exports, coupled with lack of national industrialization, will only prolong the people’s suffering, hence their call for genuine change.
