Mae Curiano from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) explained the reason behind the increase in electricity bills despite the decline in transmission rates this June.

In her statement on Bombo Radyo, she said the decrease was due to lower transmission wheeling rates and ancillary services rates.

Curiano clarified that transmission wheeling rates are the charges for delivering electricity from power plants to electric cooperatives and distribution utilities nationwide.

She added that ancillary services rates cover costs from the reserve market used to keep the grid stable during supply-demand imbalances.
