The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) issued a yellow alert for the entire Mindanao power grid following a sharp decline in available energy reserves.
NGCP Mindanao Spokesperson Mae Roselle Curiano reported that available capacity in the region dropped to 2,672 megawatts against a peak demand of 2,527 megawatts.
Curiano explained that 12 power plants experienced forced outages, including delays in restoring Sarangani Energy Corporation Unit 2 and an emergency shutdown at GNPower Unit 1 due to a boiler tube leak.
She warned that grid conditions could worsen if additional generating units trip off the system.
