Bishop Joseph Lagumbay of the Catholic Universalist Church of Asia Pacific clarified that the celebration of Pride Month symbolizes unity among members of the LGBT community.

According to his statement, the event is organized by members to demand respect and equality from society and government.

The bishop stressed that the entire community should not be judged based on the actions of a few individuals who fail to show good conduct.

He further pointed out that LGBT members continue to seek protection through pride parades since there is still no adequate law safeguarding their rights.

Bishop Lagumbay reminded the public that the practice began in New York and has since been observed in various countries every June.
