The Regional Development Council (RDC‑10) has expressed full support for the proposed construction of an international port in Sultan Naga Dimaporo, Lanao del Norte, aimed at strengthening Northern Mindanao’s connectivity with Brunei, Indonesia, and Malaysia, according to Gov. Henry Oaminal, who chairs the council.
Oaminal explained that the proposal, initiated by the provincial government of Lanao del Norte, is seen as a major boost to business activity, trade, and the movement of goods across the region. He added that the port could also allow direct importation of oil from Malaysia, reducing costs and avoiding complicated routes in the international market.
The governor noted that past discussions with various agencies revealed gaps in Northern Mindanao’s current connectivity, underscoring the need for new infrastructure. Work on the project is now underway to fast‑track its implementation, with the backing of local officials and congressional representatives.
