Allyssa Ancheta, representative of Gabriela Youth, clarified that the passage of the SOGIE Equality Bill should not be considered special treatment since it only aims to provide protection against discrimination.
She emphasized that the community has even experienced unfairness in exercising their basic rights such as education, employment, and public services.
According to Gabriela Youth, the bill simply seeks to ensure that members of the LGBTQIA+ enjoy the same rights as other people in society.
Ancheta further explained that the true purpose of the bill is to guarantee that no one experiences discrimination based on their gender identity or SOGIE.
Therefore, she stressed that this initiative cannot be equated to giving advantage to one group, but is instead part of achieving justice and recognizing human rights for all.
