The SOGIE Equality Bill would not be needed if everyone were treated fairly, but Atty. Samantha Tan, legal counsel of LGBT Pilipinas, insisted on its passage to put an end to insults and discrimination against their community.

She explained that although they consistently show respect to society, the question remains whether they are respected in return.

Tan also questioned why homosexuality is often regarded as a weakness, pointing out that despite condemnation and persecution, the community has remained strong.

She further challenged critics to explain why many LGBTQ members continue to experience disrespect, even within schools.

The lawyer emphasized that their perseverance amid hardships is proof that their rights deserve recognition by all.
