Moro Human Rights Defender Rhadem Musawah stressed that civil unions are a fairer option for same-sex couples compared to altering the traditional concept of marriage, which is deeply rooted in religious traditions.
In his interview with Bombo Radyo, he said that people who truly love each other deserve recognition under the law. However, he favors civil unions because they provide more legal benefits to couples compared to marriage, which he considers symbolic.
He suggested that the term “marriage” remain within the religious sector, while civil unions should serve as the legal mechanism to grant rights and benefits not only to LGBT couples but also to Filipino couples in general.
