Task Force Kinaiyahan Chairman Orlando R. Ravanera clarified that the accusation of them being anti-development is not true, since their stance is focused only on upholding the original teachings of the missionary priests of Xavier University.
He reminded the Xavier University community that the school was established to serve the poor through the principle of “men and women for others.”
However, he criticized what he described as a shift in the university’s priorities, which now seem more focused on generating large profits through plans to use its land for the construction of a mixed-use commercial and residential hub, instead of serving the people.
In line with this, he announced that they will hold a rally this June together with the Lumad and alumni of XU to express their strong opposition to this direction.
