The United Drivers Association (UNIDA) hailed the strict enforcement of City Ordinance No. 10551 (the 2007 Transport Ordinance)—which restricts provincial public utility vehicles from entering Cagayan de Oro’s city center—as a major victory for local drivers.
UNIDA President Joel Gabatan expressed strong support for the policy, stating it addresses an unfair system where modernized jeepneys previously bypassed restrictions into the city center while traditional jeepneys from neighboring towns were cut off at the Bulua Terminal.
Gabatan noted that he had long raised this issue with the City Council until action was taken.
As a result, a month-long dry run officially began on July 28 to organize traffic routes and protect local drivers’ livelihoods.
