The United Peoples Initiative (UPI) has raised concerns over potential manipulation of the country’s petroleum supply due to what it sees as the lack of a long‑term energy strategy under President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s administration.
UPI Secretary General Rey Valeros Jr. warned that without clear direction, powerful companies could take advantage of the situation and corner large portions of the fuel supply.
He stressed that ordinary citizens particularly tricycle, taxi, and delivery drivers who rely on daily earnings—would be the most affected.
Valeros criticized the government’s response as “reactive,” focusing mainly on short‑term aid rather than comprehensive policies to address the energy crisis.
He urged for deeper, long‑term solutions to protect vulnerable sectors and ensure stability in the country’s fuel supply.
