Americans were advised to maintain heightened awareness, practice good personal security measures, and be prepared for sudden disruptions in public spaces.
The advisory highlighted that large gatherings, even if initially peaceful, can quickly escalate into violence, posing risks to both participants and bystanders.
U.S. citizens were reminded to avoid crowded areas, monitor local news for updates, and follow instructions from Philippine authorities.
The embassy underscored that maintaining situational awareness is critical, especially in areas where demonstrations are more likely to occur.
In addition, the embassy reiterated that the safety of U.S. citizens abroad remains a top priority.
It encouraged Americans to register with the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive real-time alerts and to make it easier for the embassy to contact them in case of emergencies.
The advisory also urged travelers to keep emergency contacts updated, carry proper identification at all times, and have contingency plans for transportation and communication should protests disrupt normal routines.
