Philippine National Police Chief Gen. Jose Nartatez Jr. instructed Regional Director Police Colonel Christopher Abrahano of PRO-10 to focus not on fact-finding, but on learning from the tragic patrol vehicle accident in Misamis Occidental.
Nartatez underscored that the priority is to draw insights from the incident to strengthen safety measures, refine operational protocols, and prevent similar tragedies.
He expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of four police officers and one civilian after the crash of a patrol vehicle escorting Miss Universe Philippines organizers in Brgy. Napangan, Don Victoriano.
He also directed Abrahano to personally visit the wakes of the fallen officers and the injured personnel, highlighting the importance of honoring their service and sacrifice.
Among those who lost their lives were Police Staff Sgt. Vilcon Macabugto, Patrolmen Neljie Marban, Rudilyn Pacut, Louel Cordova, and civilian Christine Tan Fortich, an employee of the Misamis Occidental provincial tourism office.
Nartatez stressed that beyond accountability, the tragedy must serve as a reminder to uphold vigilance, implement reforms, and prioritize the welfare of police personnel during missions.
