Julie Mae Maisog Robles, a psychiatric nurse, underscored the shifting role of women in the family during International Women’s Month.
She noted that in the past, women were often confined to caring for the household and children, but today many are active in the workforce and community leadership.
Despite these changes, Robles emphasized that a mother’s presence at home remains vital, and women can still balance caregiving with small businesses or side jobs.
She added that in times of economic hardship, couples often share responsibilities to meet the family’s needs.
Globally, studies show that women now make up nearly half of the workforce, and in the Philippines, female labor force participation has steadily increased over the past decades.
At the same time, women continue to carry a significant share of household duties, highlighting the importance of shared responsibility between partners.
This reflects the dual reality, women as both economic contributors and pillars of family life.
