Troops of the 36th Infantry (Valor) Battalion under the 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division, Philippine Army, successfully facilitated the surrender of two (2) members of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) and unearthed high-powered firearms following focused military operations and sustained civil-military efforts in Surigao del Sur.

The operation was carried out through the collaborative efforts of the 36th Infantry Battalion and intelligence units of 4ID, with the support of local government units and community stakeholders.

Unearthed during the operation were one (1) M16A1 rifle and one (1) M14 rifle, both with defaced serial numbers, further weakening the armed capability of the remaining member of the CTG in the area.

The surrender, which was formalized at the 36IB Headquarters in Barangay Puyat, Surigao del Sur revealed that the increasing pressure experienced by CTG members due to sustained focus military operations, dwindling logistical support, and the growing refusal of communities to support their activities. In a statement, Lt. Col. Joselito B. Ante Jr., Commanding Officer of the 36th Infantry (Valor) Battalion, emphasized that this development reflects the effectiveness of the government’s whole-of-nation approach in addressing insurgency, highlighting the impact of intensified military operations, strengthened community engagement, and reintegration programs. Moreover, 4ID Commander, Major General Michele B. Anayron Jr., underscored that the continued surrender of CTG members manifests the declining strength of the insurgent group and the increasing trust of communities in the government.

He reaffirmed the Division’s commitment to sustain peace and development efforts while ensuring support mechanisms are in place for former rebels to rebuild their lives and reintegrate peacefully into society. (4ID PA)
