Bishop Joseph Lagumbay of the Catholic Universalist Church of Asia Pacific clarified that the ceremonies they conduct for LGBT couples are purely ceremonial blessings and not marriages.

He explained that the blessing is intended to guide individuals’ relationships toward God and strengthen them spiritually.

The bishop emphasized that God’s grace is for everyone, likening it to sunlight that shines without discrimination.

Lagumbay further noted that receiving a sacramental blessing does not mean a person is perfect or free from sin, pointing out that even in the Bible, many who had sinned were still blessed by God.

Finally, he stressed that the practice is part of extending care and recognition to those who are often marginalized or neglected by society.
