Mimi Doringo of Kalipunan ng Damayang Mahihirap (KADAMAY) described the approved ₱85 wage increase as both “welcomed” and a “big insult” amid the severe hardships faced by Filipinos today.
In an exclusive interview with BOMBO RADYO, she said that although the hike was the result of workers’ long struggle, it remains insufficient given the continuous rise in the prices of rice, electricity, water, and transportation.
She questioned why government funds are easily available when it comes to corruption, yet so difficult to release for workers’ wage increases, which are even divided into tranches.
Doringo called for the urgent implementation of a nationwide “living wage” that can truly sustain Filipino families.
