Josua Mata, Secretary General of Sentro ng mga Nagkakaisa at Progresibong Manggagawa (SENTRO), criticized large business owners for allegedly “hiding” behind micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) just to oppose fair wage increases in the country.

He said it is a “big deception” to claim that small companies would collapse because there is already a law, the BMBE Law, which exempts them from the minimum wage.

Mata explained that the real opponents of the proposed wage hike are the owners of big malls and corporations.

These wealthy business owners rely heavily on contractual workers and refuse to share a fair portion of their huge profits with employees.
