“A threat is a threat.” This was the firm stance of Atty. Samson So Tan, a lawyer from Cagayan de Oro, regarding Vice President Sara Duterte’s conditional threat.
He stressed that even if the statement was conditional, it is still considered a crime under the law since threats often arise from conditions.
Tan declared that this could be the strongest article of impeachment the prosecution could use against the Vice President.
However, he noted that the defense is expected to argue “mistake of fact,” claiming that the Vice President only made the statement in response to a perceived threat to her own life.
