The FA Secretary Maria Theresa Lazaro expressed concern over the growing distrust and weakening of global arms reduction agreements, particularly on nuclear weapons.
She noted that despite meetings under the Nuclear Non‑Proliferation Treaty (NPT) Review Conference, no final consensus has been reached due to sharp divisions on critical issues.
Lazaro warned that this threat to peace and regional stability must not be ignored.
In line with ASEAN Community Vision 2045, she stressed the need to strengthen the SEANWFZ Treaty to preserve progress and development.
Southeast Asian nations were urged to show unwavering support for nuclear disarmament and the peaceful use of nuclear energy to safeguard security and unity across ASEAN.
