DepEd Region 10 has issued heightened security advisories following attempts by some students to sneak weapons like knives onto campuses inside tumblers, footwear, and clothing.
A DepEd Region 10 representative noted that ongoing policy discussions include proposals to require transparent bags and install entry metal detectors funded through Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE).
However, the official acknowledged that mandatory equipment purchases present financial challenges for some families, calling for collaboration with Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) to strengthen physical inspections at school entrances and classrooms.
Authorities reminded the public that school safety requires collective community vigilance to prevent accidents and violence.
