Constitutional law expert Atty. Jojo Lacanilao warned that procedural irregularities or perceived unfairness in the Senate impeachment trial could trigger public unrest similar to the EDSA 2 revolution.
Lacanilao pointed out that sustained political conflict undermines economic stability, driving foreign investors to divert capital away from the Philippines to neighboring Southeast Asian markets such as Vietnam and Indonesia.
He urged the Senate to adhere strictly to the constitutional two-thirds or 16-vote threshold to preserve institutional trust and economic stability.
