Norvin Gavino, interim president of Young Free Workers, clarified the growing impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on employment and stressed the need for a proper understanding of its role in the economy and labor.
He explained that AI should not be seen as an enemy of workers but rather as a technology reshaping business operations and services.
Gavino pointed out that business owners are the ones who control and benefit from automation and AI, particularly in decisions to replace certain workers. He emphasized the crucial role of both government and the private sector in implementing a “just transition” to protect employees affected by technological change.
He concluded that the real issue is not AI itself, but the responsibility of those who design and implement it to ensure that workplace transformations do not harm workers.
