Kyle Chester Javier Cotacte of Akbayan Youth expressed deep concern over the current state of the Philippine Senate.
In his observation, the deliberations among senators have begun to resemble a sitcom or television series rather than serious legislative work.
Cotacte lamented the loss of integrity and the high level of respect once embodied by lawmakers such as Nene Pimentel, Tito Guingona, and TG Guingona.
Instead of focusing on vital legislation like the Cheaper Medicines Law and the Local Government Code, he noted the spread of fake news and manipulation of public opinion within Senate proceedings.
He called for the restoration of accountability and civility in debates, stressing that without these, the Senate risks bringing shame upon itself and undermining its dignity.
