CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines – Former Barangay Councilor Engr. Elmer Cotiamco has confirmed a significant influx of Chinese nationals in Barangay Cugman since his tenure began in 2018.
Cotiamco revealed that these chinese, aged between 20-35, frequently visited his spouse’s parlor, often accompanied by interpreters for grooming services.
In an exclusive interview of Bombo Radyo’s Zona Libre Program, Cotiamco admitted that the local council was initially unaware of a POGO (Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator) hub operating within the Alwana Business Park.
It wasn’t until 2020 that the presence of a call center, exclusively staffed by young Chinese individuals, came to light.
The situation took a dramatic turn in February 2020 when BOMBO RADYO CAGAYAN DE ORO obtained an online police blotter indicating that a Chinese national had died of COVID-19 within the Alwana Business Park.
The property, owned by a Mr. Yang, was raided by a team led by Police Capt. Eddie Emano Akut, the Cugman Police Station commander, alongside the City Health Office under Dr. Lorraine Nery, and Barangay Captain Wendelyn Escobia.
Despite the raid, no evidence of a COVID-19 death was found on the premises.
The blotter also mentioned Mr. Yang’s two interpreters and identified Rolly Chua as the Department Head of Yang Ze Enterprise, the company operating within the business park.
This revelation raises serious questions about the activities within the Alwana Business Park and the true extent of the POGO operations in Barangay Cugman.
The community remains on high alert as authorities continue to investigate the implications of these findings.
