City Councilor Enrico Salcedo has called for greater transparency from the Cagayan Electric Power & Light Co., Inc. (CEPALCO) regarding the continued increase in electricity rates in Cagayan de Oro.
In his special report during Monday’s regular council session, Salcedo noted that the rate hikes began in April, yet consumers have received little clear explanation.
He pointed out cases where households recorded lower kilowatt-hour (kWh) consumption but still received higher bills compared to the previous month.
Because of this, Salcedo requested that CEPALCO be summoned to a hearing under the Committee on Public Utilities to explain the reasons behind the increase.
He also reminded the company of its obligation to comply with Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) requirements, including public notice and hearings, before implementing any adjustments.
