Cobbie Jan Canda, chairperson of Kabataan Partylist Southern Mindanao, clarified that a simple apology from authorities is not enough regarding the controversial list of activists released by the PNP in Cateel, Davao Region. He stressed that accountability must be established, as the incident is a clear violation of human rights.
According to Canda, the posting of activists’ photos and personal information exposed them to threats and made them easy targets for red-tagging, vilification, and other forms of harassment in the future.
He described the move as part of a broader mechanism aimed at silencing activists.
Because of this, their group is preparing to file a case before the Commission on Human Rights and will coordinate with their legal team for further appropriate actions.
The incident, he added, has left lasting trauma and anxiety not only among the victims but also within their families.
