Amid the intensifying rift between the Marcos and Duterte families, Matthew Christian Silverio, National Secretary-General of the Student Council Alliance of the Philippines (SCAP), underscored the urgent need for a genuine alternative for the nation.
Silverio pointed to Senator Risa Hontiveros as filling this void, citing her courage in investigating issues surrounding POGOs and pursuing accountability cases against Alice Guo and Apollo Quiboloy.
Beyond her anti-corruption stance, he praised Hontiveros’ legislative track record, including landmark measures such as the Mental Health Law, Expanded Maternity Leave Law, and the Safe Spaces Act or “Bawal Bastos Law.”
Silverio also highlighted her unwavering support for the long-awaited Students’ Rights and Welfare Bill, stressing that these achievements reflect Akbayan’s commitment to principled leadership ready to serve the Filipino people.
