The Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) continues to call for a ₱50,000 entry-level salary for public school teachers nationwide.
Ruby Bernardo of ACT Philippines stressed that while new policies are being introduced for the upcoming school year, the long-standing demand for fair salary increases remains unaddressed.
She noted that in previous years, teachers, nurses, police officers, and soldiers earned nearly the same pay. Today, however, teachers lag behind as other professions enjoy higher salary grades, leaving educators burdened with personal expenses for school-related needs.
Currently, entry-level teachers earn just over ₱31,000, but deductions and added responsibilities reduce their take-home pay.
The group is also urging the government to raise the Personnel Economic Relief Allowance (PERA) from ₱2,000 to ₱5,000, pointing out that the allowance has remained unchanged for many years.
ACT hopes the government will heed their appeal for a more just and dignified compensation package for teachers.
